MLB rumors: Nationals to make Bryce Harper a qualifying offer

Friday at 2 p.m. PT marks the deadline for MLB teams to make a qualifying offer to players, and it should come as no surprise the Nationals are expected to do so with Bryce Harper.

According to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post, the Nationals will make a one-year, $17.9 million qualifying offer to Harper today. He has 10 days to accept or reject the offer, though it is highly unlikely he will accept it.

If Harper signs elsewhere, the Nationals will receive a fourth-round draft choice as compensation since the team crossed the Competitive Balance Tax in 2018.
