The San Francisco Giants used their first four picks in the 2020 MLB Draft on college players, but they ended that run in the third round Thursday by selecting a local high school pitcher.
De La Salle (Concord) left-hander Kyle Harrison became the fifth amateur player selected by the Giants when the team chose him with the No. 85 overall pick.
Harrison went 10-0 with a 1.26 ERA as a junior in 2019 for the Spartans and spent the summer with the U-18 Team USA squad.
A UCLA commit, Harrison will likely forego the opportunity to play in college to sign with the Giants.
