Alan Waxman is probably not a name most Bay Area sports fans have known for a long time. But he’s becoming a bigger and bigger player in the Bay Area sports scene — this time through the San Francisco Giants.
This week, Sixth Street, the San Francisco investment and private equity firm Waxman co-founded and is CEO of, made a significant investment to get a stake in the Giants, with the New York Times reporting that Sixth Street Partners ended up with around 10% of the team in the sale.
It’s part of a growing movement in the sports world of private equity investments in teams.
