Matt Duffy’s breakout first full season with the Giants garnered him a second-place finish in National League Rookie of the Year voting announced Monday.
Duffy, the 24-year-old third baseman, finished second behind Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs, who received all 30 first-place votes from members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Duffy received 22 of 30 second-place votes and four third-place votes. Jung-Ho Kang of the Pirates finished third in the voting.
Duffy forced his way onto the Giants’ opening day roster as a utility infielder this spring and took over the everyday third base role in May after Casey McGehee struggled.
