SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Giants right-hander Matt Cain underwent surgery on his right arm Thursday morning, but the club isn’t ruling out his ability to open the season in the rotation.
The procedure was to remove a cyst in his upper arm, well above the elbow area, Giants GM Bobby Evans said. The Giants expected Cain to begin throwing again in 10 days, which calls into question whether he can open the season in the rotation but does not eliminate the possibility.
“I hate to speculate,” Evans said. “It’s the start of spring. Three weeks from now, this would be tough to overcome.
