SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.–Buster Posey didn’t want to cut his 2018 season short, but he knew having surgery on his hip at the end of August would at least give him a chance to catch Madison Bumgarner on Opening Day in 2019.
Bumgarner admitted he wasn’t initially sure Posey left himself enough time to recover.
“Not that I didn’t expect him to get back as soon as he could, but that’s a pretty major deal he went through,” Bumgarner said. “Honestly I wasn’t expecting to have him back even when the season started. This is awesome.”
After sitting out the first week of Cactus League play, Posey made his spring debut Friday against the Reds.
