Madison Bumgarner rides into Giants' camp, quarterhorses in tow

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- It takes roughly 30 hours to drive straight here from the North Carolina Piedmont. A horse trailer will slow you down a few hours. A busted horse trailer will take even longer.

But if you can rely on Madison Bumgarner to do anything, it's to see a long ride safely to its conclusion.Pitchers and catchers reported to Scottsdale Stadium on Wednesday, and a familiar pair of caiman boots rested at the foot of Bumgarner's locker. He will be the Giants' pitcher on opening day April 4 in Milwaukee. The Giants would be elated if he were to throw the last pitch of the baseball season again, too.
