SAN FRANCISCO–Madison Bumgarner doesn’t care much for streaks.
But the one he snapped in Oakland last Saturday highlighted Bumgarner’s ability to do what he does care about better than almost anyone else in baseball.
Bumgarner’s only concern on the mound is finding a way to help the Giants win and for 87 consecutive starts, the Giants ace had pitched at least five innings.
It was the longest such streak in baseball, more than double the length of Astros right-hander Gerrit Cole’s 41-game streak which is the new standard.
Bumgarner allowed a career-high six walks and lasted just four innings as the Giants dropped an 11-inning game against the A’s last Saturday.
