Madison Bumgarner fails to get past sixth in 4-1 loss to Padres

SAN DIEGO -- Madison Bumgarner dearly wanted to compete in the All-Star Home Run Derby here at Petco Park. The string pullers kept it from happening.

So Bumgarner was a spectator for the power show. And when he took the mound Friday night, the home run display continued. Adam Rosales and Wil Myers hit solo shots off Bumgarner and the Giants began the unofficial second half with a 4-1 loss to the San Diego Padres. The Giants (57-34) lost for the first time in 10 games against the Padres this season; they were seeking to set a franchise record for consecutive victories against an opponent within a single season.
