SAN DIEGO -- Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen interrupted dry spells at the plate in the best way possible: by using sheer power.
The pair of veteran offseason acquisitions belted homers in back-to-back innings to spark the Giants' bats against Padres starter Clayton Richard on Saturday night at Petco Park.
Longoria was in desperate need of positive reinforcement. His second-inning strikeout dropped his batting average to .146 (7-for-48) with 17 strikeouts. But that didn't seem to bother him in the fourth inning, when he deposited a 2-0 fastball from Richard into the left-field seats.
