The Milwaukee Brewers promoted outfielder Brett Phillips to the big leagues Monday and he singled and struck out twice in his three at-bats against Jeff Samardzija and the San Francisco Giants. Phillips took the roster spot of third baseman Travis Shaw, who headed to the paternity list, so it’s likely to be a short, albeit deserving, stint. Phillips, who was hitting .297 with a .957 OPS in Triple-A Colorado Springs, hit eighth in Monday’s lineup and is someone fantasy owners have been aware of for several seasons. While he’s rejuvenated a career that seemed to have stalled last season in Double-A, the problem is the Brewers have considerable outfield depth.
