SAN FRANCISCO — As gusts of wind swirled around China Basin on Tuesday, Giants manager Bruce Bochy confronted a challenging decision.
Send a struggling Mac Williamson out to left field to face another tough right-handed pitcher, or ask catcher Stephen Vogt to play left field for the first time in five years?
Bochy went with Vogt.
For the first time since July 2, 2014, Vogt will play left field as he becomes the eighth different player to start a game at the position for the Giants this season.
“I’m as ready as I’ll ever be,” Vogt said.
