CHICAGO — Mike Leake, the Giants’ lone acquisition before the trade deadline, was removed from the rotation because of a strained left hamstring.
Ryan Vogelsong will take Leake’s spot and start Friday at Wrigley Field. It’ll be Vogelsong’s first start since July 11, and he’ll oppose former A’s lefty Jon Lester.
Asked if he’d miss just the one start, Leake said, “Hopeful. There’s a chance it could extend to a second. As of now, it’s progressing pretty well.”
A decision could come as early as Friday on whether Leake will go on the disabled list.
