Kyle Blanks’ contract with Giants is official

Kyle Blanks passed a physical, making his minor-league contract with the Giants official, sources told The Chronicle.

Blanks, 29, will be invited to the Giants’ big-league camp and get a chance to win a roster job. The 6-foot-6 outfielder/first baseman began his career impressively with the 2009 Padres, but his career has been detoured by injuries. He was limited to 44 games the past two seasons, including 18 with the 2015 Rangers, while dealing with calf and Achilles issues. He had surgety to both Achilles tendons in September, has started non-impact cardio work and is expected to be fine for spring training.
