The most important day of Gabe Kapler’s career as the Giants’ manager will be his first in the new job.
And the most important thing he will do in his tenure at the helm of the storied franchise isn’t a call to the bullpen, the insertion of a pinch hitter, or a pre-game speech he’ll deliver in the clubhouse — it’s a press conference.
It seems downright illogical — almost hyperbolic — but it’s true: Kapler needs to “win” his introductory press conference Wednesday for him to have a successful tenure in San Francisco.
Make a solid first impression with the Bay Area media and fans, and all the outrage that came to the surface with the announcement of his hiring Tuesday will eventually subside.
