The Baseball Writers Association of America determined that Barry Bonds was the National League’s Most Valuable player seven times during his career — giving him four more MVP awards than anyone else in baseball history.
But now that same group has determined that Bonds isn’t amongst the greatest players in the history of sports and appear poised to keep him out of the Hall of Fame.
It’s an incredible bit of cognitive dissonance, and so long as it exists, you shouldn’t take seriously either the Hall of Fame or the voters who decide who is enshrined in it.
