SAN FRANCISCO -- After 300 appearances and two World Series rings, right-handed reliever George Kontos is no longer with the Giants after the Pirates claimed him off waivers on Saturday.
In a corresponding roster move, San Francisco activated Chris Stratton (calf) from the 10-day disabled list. He is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the D-backs.
Despite an 0-5 record this season, Kontos had pitched well for the Giants, posting a 3.83 ERA in 50 appearances. He owns a 3.05 career ERA with San Francisco from 2012-17.
The Pirates will be responsible for the remainder of Kontos' contract.
