LOS ANGELES -- During most of their 3-2 loss to the Dodgers on Friday evening, the Giants barely resembled the team that won six of its previous 10 games against Los Angeles.
Sustaining a season-long trend among Giants starters, Derek Holland lasted only five innings, allowing all of the Dodgers' runs. Defense became a liability in the fourth inning when center fielder Austin Jackson could not hold onto Yasmani Grandal's fourth-inning drive, resulting in a three-base error that helped the Dodgers score an essential run.
The Giants did more to lose the game than they did to win.
