Johnny Cueto will attempt to rehab elbow injury, avoid surgery

PHILADELPHIA–Giants starter Johnny Cueto’s elbow injury isn’t as severe as the club feared, according to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.

Cueto spent Monday visiting Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida after being placed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation last week.

The Giants were concerned Cueto might have a torn UCL in his pitching elbow that could have required Tommy John surgery, but according to Heyman, Cueto was diagnosed with an elbow sprain.

Cueto will spent the next six weeks resting and rehabbing and will attempt to avoid surgery. If Cueto’s elbow doesn’t respond as the pitcher hopes, surgery will likely remain an option.
