The San Francisco Giants have announced that veteran All-Star right-hander Johnny Cueto is set to undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday.
Cueto, 32, is 3-2 in nine starts this season for the Giants, rolling with a 3.23 ERA, 6.5 K/9, and 2.2 BB/9. He’s experienced soreness in his elbow all season long.
Cueto is in the third year of his six-year, $130 million deal with San Francisco. He’s expected to miss the entire 2019 season.
The Giants have had an up and down season with their pitching staff thus far in 2018.
