CHICAGO — Two decades after they took Joe Nathan in the sixth round of the MLB Draft, the Giants are bringing him back to the big leagues.
Nathan had his contract purchased Saturday morning, adding a 13th reliever to Bruce Bochy’s bullpen. The 41-year-old right-hander had Tommy John surgery in April of 2015 and made a brief cameo with the Cubs earlier this season. Nathan had been pitching for Double-A Richmond, and he showed enough to warrant a call-up.
Nathan was selected in the 1995 draft and pitched parts of four seasons for the Giants. He was traded to Minnesota in the infamous A.
