SAN FRANCISCO — The famously cool Joe Montana had a rare case of jitters Sunday. At a ceremony to announce the new street names for the neighborhood at old Candlestick Park, the 49ers Hall of Fame quarterback nervously rejected the proposed “Joe Montana Drive.”
He politely requested that the lasting piece of real estate be renamed “Montana-Clark Drive,” forever linking him with the other end of “The Catch.” Dwight Clark just happened to be in the front row for the two-hour ceremony at City Hall in San Francisco.
After that idea appeared to go over well, Montana had another suggestion for his street: “They can lower the speed limit,” he cracked.
