MILWAUKEE -- The Giants have designated 2014 postseason hero Travis Ishikawa for assignment after being reinstated off the 15-day disabled list. He opened the season with a back injury and had not played with the big league club in 2015.
Ishikawa, 31, recently finished a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento. He wasn't on the 25-man roster before the transaction and was out of options.
In two separate rehab stints, he batted .294 (20-for-68) with seven RBIs in 18 games between Class A Advanced San Jose and Sacramento.
The first baseman and outfielder played his first four seasons with San Francisco and provided postseason heroics for the club last October.
