PHOENIX — Justin Maxwell turned back the clock and the Giants turned down the Diamondbacks on Sunday, winning 2-1 to grab their second straight series sweep. Maxwell, an early contributor who has struggled the last couple months, had a solo homer and later added a spectacular diving catch in left field.
Maxwell went the opposite way in the second inning, just clearing the wall in right to pick up his first homer since June 20. The Diamondbacks scored a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Giants went right back on top.
Joe Panik walked to open the third, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Hunter Pence’s hard double to left.
