NEW YORK — As a minor leaguer, Chris Heston earned the nickname Hesto Presto because of his ability to escape innings with double-play grounders. What Heston accomplished Tuesday night at Citi Field was much more magical.
Heston became the first Giants rookie since Jeff Tesreau in 1912 to throw a no-hitter. The no-hitter was the 17th in franchise history and the fourth in the last four seasons, and came in a 5-0 win over the New York Mets.
Heston got 14 outs on the ground and struck out 11. He hit Anthony Recker to open the ninth but then struck out Danny Muno looking.
