SAN FRANCISCO — It’s too early to say Matt Cain is back. It is not, however, too early to declare that Cainings are back.
In what was easily his best start of the season, Cain took his fifth loss, a 4-0 shutout at the hands of J.A. Happ and the Blue Jays. Cain gave up two runs and struck out seven in eight strong innings but got no help from a lineup that has scored three runs in the past four games.
Happ got two outs in the ninth before being pulled. The Giants loaded the bases, but Jarrett Parker struck out.
