Injury updates: Panik, Bumgarner, Smith

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants second baseman Joe Panik will be sidelined for an estimated six weeks following surgery Monday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, manager Bruce Bochy said.

Panik sustained his injury last Friday during an attempted pickoff of Los Angeles' Yasiel Puig at second base. This is Panik's fifth career stint on the disabled list. He was sidelined twice by lower back inflammation in 2015 and by concussions in each of the previous two seasons.
