Before Monday’s series opening game here, right fielder Hunter Pence and manager Bruce Bochy chatted. Pence said he was feeling a little overall soreness. Bochy said, “All right, tomorrow you’re off.”
Bochy said he then offered to give Pence Monday night off.
“He’s hitting balls 450 feet (in batting practice),” Bochy said. “He goes, ‘No, I’m good. I’ll take tomorrow off.’”
Ouch. On Pence’s final swing Monday night, a lineout to center field, he felt a twinge in his left oblique. Before Tuesday’s game he went for an MRI exam and is expected to miss at least a few games.
