How prospect Jaylin Davis’ arrival impacts Giants plans in the outfield

ST. LOUIS — An already crowded Giants outfield welcomed a new arrival Wednesday in St. Louis.

Fewer than 24 hours after receiving word that he would be headed to the big leagues, power-hitting prospect Jaylin Davis is starting in right field and batting seventh for a slumping Giants offense.

“It almost doesn’t feel real,” Davis said.

Davis thought he’d spend Wednesday at Raley Field in Sacramento for the Triple-A River Cats’ first playoff game, but he received a surprise call from a number with an Oregon area code late Tuesday evening.

The number belonged to River Cats manager Dave Brundage, who joked around before informing Davis he would soon be making his MLB debut.
