SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Is there such thing as a spring-training contract drive? Brandon Belt might be inventing the genre.
Belt's representatives and the Giants this week renewed talks on a potential long-term contract extension. Meanwhile, Belt has hit four home runs in the span of five at-bats over his past three games, including two in Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the Diamondbacks. Three of the four were tape-measure homers.
Belt doubled in his final at-bat Wednesday, raising his Cactus League average to .448.
"I think there's an openness on both sides to see if there's a window where we could match up for a deal," general manager Bobby Evans said.
