SAN FRANCISCO–The Giants chose to part ways with one outfielder on Sunday, but they lost another against their will later on in the day.
After trading center fielder Austin Jackson to the Texas Rangers, the Giants did not have Gorkys Hernández available for the late stages of Sunday’s series finale against the Cardinals.
Hernández exited in the bottom of the sixth inning after his two-run single pushed the Giants ahead 11-4. The Giants did not disclose details of Hernández’s injury, but he appeared to have difficulty running up the first base line after his base hit.
Hernández took over as the everyday center fielder during the first half of the season, but shifted over to left field on Sunday after the Giants promoted prospect Steven Duggar.
