Giants won’t consider six-man rotation, but creativity could help pitching staff

SAN FRANCISCO–One Giants pitcher could lose a roster spot by the end of the week.

Another job is at risk soon, too.

When Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija prove they’re healthy enough to return to the Giants rotation, manager Bruce Bochy plans on slotting both veterans back into starting roles.

The upcoming returns of two well-compensated right-handed pitchers will force the Giants to change the dynamics of a starting staff that’s skewing young thanks to the presences of a pair of rookies and one second-year starter.

Though left-hander Andrew Suárez and righty Dereck Rodríguez are both coming off of impressive weekend starts against the San Diego Padres, one of the rookies is likely to fall out of the rotation when Samardzija returns to the club on the Giants next road trip.
