The Minnesota Twins are doing it in all the ways. Their hitting and pitching are both in the top 10 in terms of value (as measured by fWAR), and if you spin it out to AL-only, their lineup is the third-most valuable and pitching is sixth-most. They’re a good, possibly even great team, if “great” can be used when every team makes the playoffs and in the case of the Twins, they play in the AL Central.
None of this matters too much for the San Francisco Giants. They are neither good nor great and how they do in this series (sweep, swept, win it 2-1, lose it 2-1) has little bearing on their playoff odds, which are at 21% as of this morning.
