Giants turn to Madison Bumgarner, try to continue dominance over Padres

SAN DIEGO – You cannot pre-jinx a no-hitter.

Actually, you can’t ever jinx a no-hitter, because we have evolved beyond witch hunts and cave paintings and jinxes don’t exist.

Anyway, Madison Bumgarner took a no-hitter into the eighth inning of his last start Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He takes the mound Friday night against the San Diego Padres, the team that the Giants have no-hit three times since 2009.

Bumgarner got darn close against the Padres last year, retiring 23 consecutive batters before Melvin Upton Jr. whistled a single with two outs in the eighth.
