In the Giants’ clubhouse after their 5-4 win Friday night over the Phillies, Buster Posey found his backup, Trevor Brown, to compliment him for a nuance few fans had probably noticed.
In the ninth inning, with Philadelphia’s Cesar Hernandez facing a 3-2 count, Brown set up for a fastball away. When the 94 mph heater came inside, the catcher adjusted and held his glove firmly to sell the strike to the umpire. It was a big moment given that Giants closer Santiago Casilla went on to load the bases.
“Buster just told me that was a big out,” Brown recalled.
