Right-hander Cody Hall, who was designated for assignment last week, has been traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the Giants announced.
Hall won’t register alongside Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller in the Diamondbacks’ dramatic offseason pitching overhaul. But the 28-year-old reliever features a mid-90s fastball, he posted a 3.46 ERA in 43 games for Triple-A Sacramento and he made his big league debut last season. Hall posted a 6.48 ERA and gave up a few homers in seven appearances.
The Giants designated Hall because they needed to free up a place on the 40-man roster for outfielder Denard Span, whose three-year, $31 million contract became official last Friday.
