Giants to place Sergio Romo on disabled list with flexor strain

DENVER – Sergio Romo won’t throw another pitch in April, and perhaps quite a bit longer. But the Giants avoided the worst-case scenario when doctors reviewed tests on the right-hander’s aching elbow on Thursday.

Romo was diagnosed with a strained flexor tendon and will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

“He’s going to be down for a little while,” Bochy said.

Although Matt Cain missed three months with a flexor strain last year, the Giants offered no timetable on Romo’s recovery. He will be reevaluated after two weeks of rest.
