SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Giants will face an old friend Tuesday night. They’ll host the Reds, who plan to pitch 33-year-old Jonathan Sanchez in relief.
Sanchez hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since making five appearances with Pittsburgh in early 2013. He hurt his shoulder pitching in the Cubs’ farm system in 2014 and sat out last season.
Sanchez pitched two hitless innings in his first appearance with the Reds, who signed him to a minor-league contract in January.
“I’ll definitely root for him,” said Giants bullpen catcher Eli Whiteside, who caught Sanchez’s no-hitter against San Diego in 2009.
