SAN FRANCISCO – Dave Roberts is the new manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The mere mention of him at AT&T Park is supposed to elicit boos, hisses and blue language from the orange-clad faithful.
But Roberts, a former Giants player, is too swell a guy for that. And after the events Thursday afternoon, following his first experience managing in this rivalry, he might have been less popular with his own fans.
Roberts made the curious decision to stick with left-hander Alex Wood, and the Giants beat down doors for seven runs between the fifth and sixth innings to wrest a 12-6 victory in the first regular-season game of 2016 at Third and King.
