Giants start Posey at first, Belt takes a seat

SAN FRANCISCO — With Buster Posey hitting .462 over his last eight games, Giants manager Bruce Bochy started the veteran at first base Thursday in place of Brandon Belt in a getaway-day game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park.

Posey has three extra base hits, including two doubles and a homer and three RBIs. Normally Posey would take a day game off following a night game.

“Normally you wouldn’t give Belt his many days off, but you look at how many left-handers we’ve faced — in 10 games I think we’ve faced seven — and we’ve got a couple more when we head south,” Bochy said.
