SAN FRANCISCO – Seeking to alleviate a serious shortage of right-handed hitting outfield depth, the Giants agreed to terms on a minor league contract with 35-year-old veteran Chris Denorfia on Thursday.
Denorfia will report to extended spring camp in Scottsdale, Ariz., and eventually join the roster at Triple-A Sacramento.

Most familiar to Giants fans during his five seasons with the San Diego Padres from 2010-15, Denorfia last appeared in the major leagues as a part-time player with the Chicago Cubs last season. He was in the Yankees’ big league camp this spring but opted out of his contract at the end of March when it was apparent he wouldn’t make the club.
