Giants sign former A’s pitcher to one-year contract

Farhan Zaidi was on hand to see Drew Pomeranz rehabilitate his career once before, now the new Giants director of baseball operations is again betting on the left-hander bouncing back.

The Giants signed the free-agent Pomeranz to a one-year contract for a reported $1.5 million on Wednesday, taking a chance on the former first-round pick who struggled badly in Boston last season.

Pomeranz’s deal reportedly could be worth as much as $5 million if he reaches incentives. The Giants made room for him on the 40-man roster by designating outfielder Mike Gerber for assignment.
