Giants manager Bruce Bochy said this past season he often heard opposing coaches and managers use the term "Gold Glove shortstop" to describe Brandon Crawford. That can now be considered an official designation.
Crawford was named the National League’s Gold Glove Award winner at shortstop on Tuesday, earning the coveted defensive honor for the first time in his career. Crawford becomes the Giants’ first Gold Glove recipient since shortstop Omar Vizquel in 2006, beating out fellow finalists Adeiny Hechavarria of the Marlins and Andrelton Simmons of the Braves.
Simmons had won the Gold Glove each of the past two seasons, and Crawford said that while he was "optimistic" about his chances this year, he was still "a little bit surprised" when he learned from his agent Tuesday that he’d won the award.
