The Giants are expected to hire former A’s pitching coach Curt Young to replace Dave Righetti as pitching coach in San Francisco, according to major-league sources.
The Giants have not confirmed the hire, but a deal appears to be done or close.
Young, 57, has been the A’s pitching coach twice, from 2004 to 2010 and again from 2012 through last June, when they fired him amid a poor performance by the Oakland pitching staff. The A’s were one of the worst defensive teams in baseball, which contributed to the pitching downfall.
He was the Red Sox’s pitching coach for one season, 2011.
