SAN FRANCISCO–The Giants did themselves a huge favor Tuesday night, securing a series victory over the Washington Nationals ahead of a Wednesday matchup with back-to-back Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer.
Scherzer owns three career Cy Young Awards, winning the 2016 and 2017 National League honor with the Nationals after finishing fifth in the voting in 2015, his first season with the club.
The 33-year-old right-hander is off to another dominant start, posting a 1.36 ERA through his first five outings of the year.
Any showdown with Scherzer is a matchup a team would rather avoid, but the upcoming schedule could be worse for San Francisco.
