Giants scratch Bumgarner; dealing with ribcage injury

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Projected Opening Day pitcher Madison Bumgarner will miss one or two spring training starts for the Giants due to a pair of physical issues he's dealing with.

Bumgarner felt a slight tug in his ribcage while taking batting practice, and he also is dealing with neuroma, a nerve condition between his third and fourth toes.Bumgarner had an MRI for the ribcage and no oblique damage was found. The pitcher said he expects to be fine for Opening Day and said he could have pitched Sunday if it was the regular season.Bumgarner was scheduled to pitch against the San Diego Padres Sunday but was scratched.
