Shaw's hit pushed the tying runner to third base with no outs, but the Brewers rally fizzled. Domingo Santana struck out, Jett Bandy lined out to third baseman Eduardo Nunez on a terrific leaping catch, and Hernan Perez grounded out to push the game into extra innings.
The Giants made the most of the opportunity. They scored four runs before making an out against Brewers relievers Jacob Barnes and Rob Scahill, pulling ahead on Hunter Pence's single up the middle and padding the lead on run-scoring hits for Denard Span and Nunez.
