SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.–At the end of their Cactus League schedule, the Giants will fly north to play an exhibition against their Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats.
Many of the 60 players in Giants’ spring camp will don River Cats jerseys on March 24, and after a pair of split-squad games, it’s increasingly likely the two pitchers who started for San Francisco on Saturday will be among them.
Left-hander Andrew Suarez took the ball in Scottsdale while righty Tyler Beede earned the nod in Tempe, and both Giants’ prospects struggled against Angels’ split-squad lineups.
The duo began spring training with invitations to challenge Chris Stratton, Ty Blach and Derek Holland for the final two spots in the Giants’ rotation, but with two weeks standing between the Giants-River Cats duel at Raley Field, Suarez and Beede are probably in line to form a one-two punch at the top of Sacramento’s rotation.
