SAN FRANCISCO–Entering Saturday afternoon’s contest at AT&T Park, Giants relievers Pierce Johnson, Reyes Moronta and Roberto Gomez had combined for just 18 Major League appearances.
In extra innings of the Giants’ epic 7-5 walkoff win over the Dodgers, the trio’s lack of experience didn’t stop them from combining for late magic.
Over five innings of work, Johnson, Moronta and Gomez allowed just a lone run against Los Angeles, setting the stage for Andrew McCutchen’s sixth hit of the night, a three-run blast that ended a marathon ballgame in the bottom of the 14th inning.
“He was what, 6-for-7, that’s unbelievable,” Johnson said.
