SAN FRANCISCO — Christian Arroyo held onto his roster spot as the Giants activated utility man Aaron Hill from the 10-day disabled list Friday.
Manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged Thursday that the club was debating the option of sending Arroyo back to Triple-A Sacramento, but when decision time came, the team decided to go down to 12 pitchers by optioning left-handed reliever Steven Okert.
“He’s too valuable for us right now,” Bochy said, referring to Arroyo. “This kid’s gone through some struggles here, but right now we’re going to stay behind him.”
Arroyo is struggling through a prolonged slump, going 5-for-43 (.
